TMII: Travel Around Indonesia In One Day

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) or “Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park” is a culture-based recreational area located in East Jakarta, Indonesia. Completed in 1975, Taman Mini was one of the first such institutions in the region.

The park has an area of about 250 acres. The park is a synopsis of Indonesian culture, with virtually all aspects of daily life in Indonesia’s 33 provinces encapsulated in separate pavilions with the collections of  architecture, clothing, dances and traditions are all depicted impeccably.

The park’s centerpiece is a beautiful artificial lake,which makes TMII to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. The all Indonesian islands are realistically reproduced in miniature in a central lake and around the lakes. There are pavilions cable cars, museums, Keong Emas Imax cinema, a theater called the Theatre of My Homeland and other recreational facilities. Apart from that, the park contains many miniature traditional buildings and miniature world-famous landmarks.

The park also has its own orchid garden in which hundreds of Indonesian orchid varieties are grown. There is also a bird park with a walk-in aviary, a fauna museum and recreational grounds with a swimming pool and restaurants. The special interest here at Taman Mini is the Museum Indonesia. A richly decorated building in Balinese architecture, it houses contemporary arts, crafts and traditional costumes from the different regions of the country.

Cultural performances, events, and even local delicacies from the provinces are prepared regularly, especially during weekends and holidays, to showcase Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. The park is open seven days a week, giving guests ample time to explore and enjoy the sights.
